*Detroit, Michigan – The founder of the R&B Music Hall of Fame Museum, entrepreneur and comedy basketball Clown Prince of the Harlem Clowns, LaMont “ShowBoat” Robinson from Cleveland, Ohio and his staff of advisors had narrowed the selection down to two cities (Cleveland and Detroit) to develop the Official R&B Music Hall of Fame Museum (OR&BMHFM).

The R&B Music Hall of Fame Museum today has announced its partnership and has signed an agreement with a Detroit based entertainment company, the Detroit Touring Company, founded by mogul entertainment promoter Quentin Perry.

Cleveland was chosen as the first choice. After spending two years trying to gather support from political and corporate leaders of the City of Cleveland, and several attempts to host the Induction Ceremony on two occasions, the support has not been forthcoming. Mogul entertainment promoter Quentin Perry visited the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, City of Cleveland, Ohio in March 2013 with his hit play “My Brother Marvin,” the story of legendary soul singer, Marvin Gaye. After spending time with Mr. Robinson, and looking at the R&B Music Hall promo DVD, and the mobile R&B Music Hall and memorabilia, Mr. Perry said that this has to come to the Motor City. He has offered his full support to establish the permanent home of the R&B Music Hall in Detroit, Michigan. Mr. Robinson also spoke briefly with the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, about the project coming to Detroit, Michigan.

This museum project is long overdue. There have been many attempts to establish a Rhythm & Blues Hall of Fame of this magnitude, but none have come to fruition. The R&B Music Hall of Fame Museum will exemplify to the world the essence of rhythm & blues music and its components. The R&B Music Hall Inaugural Induction Ceremony will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2013 in Detroit, Michigan at the legendary Detroit Opera House. Tickets will go on sale June 1, 2013 at the Detroit Opera House box office, (313) 237-7464.

The class of the 2013 induction includes James Brown, The Temptations, The O’Jays, The Marvelettes, Little Jimmy Scott, Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye, The Four Tops to name a few of the inductees.

Support for the museum has been received from many music artists and affiliates including Eddie Levert and Walter Williams of The O’Jays, Marshall Thompson of The Chi-Lites and, the family of James Brown, Abdul “Duke” Fakir of The Four Tops, the family of David Ruffin, the family of Marvin Gaye and the families of many other deceased rhythm & blues artists. Fundraisers for the museum will include induction ceremonies and a brick campaign drive to sell 10,000 bricks on which rhythm & blues artists’ names will appear.

The R&B Music Hall of Fame Museum will also memorialize and preserve the legacy and contributions of gospel and hip-hop music, as well as the contributions of preachers, through its Gospel Music & Preachers Hall of Fame Museum and the Hip Hop Museum of America. The goal now is to establish a temporary home within the next 2 months. A permanent state-of-the-art facility is planned to be built within next 24 months.
